About the Company
Surface Optics Corporation (SOC) is an employee
owned small business providing specialty service to government and industry. The company
was establised as a separate entity in 1976 but the principals have been providing
these specialized services for more than twenty-five years. The company's laboratory
instrumentation, measurement database, and computer programs have been developed and
continually improved over this period. Our business has traditionally been the acquisition
of optical property data to support low observable technology.
SOC develops sophisticated suites of analytical software
for exploiting the measurement data for a number of practical engineering applications.
These tools include optical constant determination, optical phenomenology of composite
materials, coatings design, thermal analysis, and visible, infrared and radar signature
simulation. In collaboration with research groups world wide, SOC's laboratory and
analytical tools have garnered an international reputation for excellence.
From this niche, SOC has developed a unique perspective
and extensive experience in the areas of coatings, analytical models, and instrumentation
used to measure optical property data. It is for this reason that SOC has expanded
its operations to include production of directional and bidirectional reflectometers
and coatings R&D. In addition, a new real-time imaging spectroradiometer is under
development that promises to elevate the state-of-the-art. The
bulk of SOC business has been for the aerospace and defense industries.
